Hillsboro Banner staff reports
Farm Service Agency offices, including the one in Hillsboro, reopened Thursday and will remain open through Feb. 8 despite the federal government shutdown.
Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue announced Tuesday that the country’s FSA offices had tossed open their doors to provide additional services to farmers and ranchers.
Offices will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays through Feb. 8.
After that two-week period, FSA offices will be open three days a week Tuesday through Thursday starting Feb. 11 until the shutdown ends.
Perdue also announced Tuesday that the Jan. 15 deadline to apply for the Market Facilitation Program has been extended through Feb. 14.
In a release, Perdue said staff will be able to assist producers with more than 14 types of programs, including: marketing assistance loans, release of collateral warehouse receipts, direct and guaranteed farm operating loans and sugar price support loans.
