Hillsboro woman produces horseshoe-themed works of art

Becky Laturnus found the perfect way to bring together her two passions. All she needed was a blowtorch.
The owner of Blue Horse Metalworks has coupled her interest in horses and art with her passion for welding to create handmade horseshoe and metal art designs.
The 24-year-old Hillsboro woman says she’s more than happy to turn horseshoes into reindeer, snowmen, wine racks and a wide variety of other crafts for her clients.
But she’s the one getting a kick out of flipping down her welding mask, cranking up the tunes and letting her creative side run rampant.
“I love welding. It’s a getaway for me,” Laturnus says. “I like putting my headphones in and going to work.”
The Grand Forks, N.D., native didn’t grow up planning to be a welder.
